Did you know that one of the signs of hearing loss is difficulty understanding young children or women?<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]They speak in higher tones, which are the first sounds that are lost in age-related hearing loss.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">\u00a0\u201c<em>There\u2019s too much noise. I can\u2019t hear anything!<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>Is communicating difficult in noisy locations or during events where several people are talking at the same time?<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Someone with hearing loss would have trouble following conversations in these environments. The person will ask others to repeat what they said, and may seem tired at the end of the event because of all the energy spent trying to concentrate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">\u201c<em>I feel like I\u2019m always asking you to say it again.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>You might notice a change in the behaviour of the person with hearing loss, such as isolating themself or not participating in group conversations.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]People who can\u2019t hear well might feel embarrassed or guilty for asking others to repeat what they\u2019ve said. These negative feelings cause increasing frustration over time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">Reminder of some telling signs of hearing loss<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>Here is a quick reminder of what you should look for in the behaviors of people around you to see if they might have a hearing loss:<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They say those around them seem to mumble a lot.<\/li>\n<li>They confuse words like \u201cthere\u201d and \u201chere.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Often ask people to repeat what they said because they\u2019re not speaking loudly enough, especially women and children who have higher voices.<\/li>\n<li>They have trouble following conversations in loud places because of the background noise.<\/li>\n<li>They always turn the TV volume up as high as possible.<\/li>\n<li>They have missed hearing the telephone or alarm ring because they didn\u2019t hear it.<\/li>\n<li>Or they seem like they can\u2019t hear as well as they did before.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<strong>If you have noticed the situations described above in your loved one, know that you can help.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">Solutions exist:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">Take steps together to regain the pleasure of hearing<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008fc4;\">Hearing screening<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The first, very <strong>simple step <\/strong>is to get a<strong> hearing screening <\/strong>done.
